So what’s happening this month then? Well, it’s hot...... we all know that....It’s also the month of the Fast (called Ramazan here), a whole month of fasting between sunrise and sunset for the devout Muslim among us. And last but not least, I am facing a two week period of enforced immobilisation!
Ignoring Achilles tendonitis is never a good idea but when the washing machine needs filling, the floors need hovering, the shopping needs doing and you have a life to live, what are you supposed to do? In this day and age who can possible manage to do ‘absolutely nothing’ and remain off their feet? Sometimes it’s just not possible and we all carry on with a wing and a prayer until the universe steps in and puts a stop to it.
So here I am, in a plaster cast for two weeks with instruction not to bear any weight on my left foot. I have a pair of crutches, an electric fan, a knitting needle and my laptop, I’ll be fine! With this in mind, I have included an article about bed yoga this month as although I am pretty sure the majority of you reading this mag will not need it, you never know what the future holds and it may one day prove useful.
As usual our Lou is getting to grips with your problems and dishing out some sound advice, Alister talks about the main meal of the day ‘breakfast’ which is rather fitting considering what month it is. I actually remember the first time I heard of Nassredden Hoca, it was in the early days of my settlement and a guy at work was relaying what is still my favourite Hoca story to date (about his Donkey). It was for me an introduction to the Turkish sense of humour, and something slightly different to the usual 'slapstick' they tend to roar laughing at. Anyway, if you have never heard of him before, allow us to introduce you....
Our lovely Bodrum Hasher Gail is taking a little break this month as she has been doing some running of a different kind.......running after her first grandchild!! We don't mind little Zachary taking all of her attention, he is, after all, completely adorable. Instead we have a few interesting folklore tales for you to read in her absence.
