Breaking the Fast

Hello to you all,

THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY?

Ok, let’s begin at the beginning, obvious statement, yet so true to having a full idea of the story of your own very precious and important lives. Puzzled well that is understandable as I have still not told you the most important meal of the day, I’m sure you have all got an idea....

break-FAST OR BREAKFAST!!

I am now going to enthuse you all into having a real shot at controlling your metabolism and feeling the energetic effects of starting the day the correct way...

Fuel is where it all begins; increasing the amount of fuel to burn on a daily basis means the likelihood of those little cheeky/naughty indulgences getting stored as a winter fuel become considerably less. Also by doing this more vitamins and nutrients help you adapt and improve physiological health. The old ethos of treating our bodies like a steam engine or any engine for that matter really does still have a lot of truth behind it, trust me I know. On a personal level I have two breakfasts one as soon as I wake, cereal with fruit, any fruit (fresh)love it all, then maybe 1-1.5 hrs. Later after training or taking my little boy to school my tummy is playing havoc for more food, (rumble rumble empty feeling). Bring on the peanut butter, milk and eggs to fill me up again. Anyway enough about me it’s about you and your engine!!

WHY DO YOU NEED BREAKFAST

I hear so many people telling me that they don’t eat or need breakfast!!! WHAT?? They then even have a smile on their faces as if they are doing something really functional and successful for themselves...Please I know you’ve seen or heard this also so please read on and it will become crystal clear as they say.

Exactly; Break-FAST is exactly that. You have a base metabolism known as (Basal Metabolic Rate) BMR, this essential for you to live your life. In short the more muscle you have, active muscle that is the faster your metabolism is. When you sleep your body tries to find this baseline slowing all our functions down from the brain to your muscles, are you still following? GOOD lets continue... You can stimulate this base rate and increase it by physical activity, eating, etc...

If you wake at maybe 7am it is at that specific time that the engine has been fired up and yes you’ve got it desperately needs fuel...ok now that is clear I will show you two simple scenarios...here we go then all is below so read on and on please...and of course enjoy as well..

A. NO BREAKFAST

If you DONT eat at this time then the body slows down the metabolic rate therefore storing what we call fat and goes into survival mode.

The body panics thinking it is not getting any fuel so then falls into the realms of fear meaning when you do eventually eat and for some of you I know that maybe most of the day, it will store large percentages of the fat from the food you then eat, so not good really!! If there is no fuel coming in the protein stores get hit next as it is easier to utilise than the stored fat...Are you still with me? Excellent, so let’s continue again.

LOSE IT OR USE IT

So the body then becomes malnourished with a distinct lack of macro/micro nutrients to play with.... This then causes unstable blood sugars so your body will be pulling you towards a high calorie unhealthy quick fix. Then we have a calorie debt from not eating and that has to be repaid somehow...bring on the fizzy drinks and crisps ...OH know disaster unhealthy all round!

B. VICE VERSA EAT IT

So very very SIMPLE, Eat breakfast and increase your bodies output therefore you have the best opportunity to build muscle and burn that word FAT...

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE ALL HEARD THE SAYING THAT BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY (THOUSANDS OF TIMES)

SO LETS LISTEN AND NOT JUST HEAR THAT SAYING PLEASE ACT UPON IT.....

Sorry if the last two lines sound like I am preaching at you.... that is because I am. Remember YOU are the most important also, just like a good breakfast.

Bye for now I’m off to eat as my body is telling me it needs fuel, little and often ....
